Software and Controls Engineer - FTSE100 Global Organisation

A leading Global Organisation is currently looking fora Lead Software Engineertojoin their teamto beresponsible for designing, installing, managing and maintaining equipment and software used to monitor and control the plant engineering systems, machinery and processes in support operations on site.


  • Supporting the projects teams at initial design stages to offer advice on the selection of software and controls equipment
  • Implement and continually review the controls strategy to ensure business needs, both current and future are maintained and developed
  • Implement recognised standards with regards to alarm management and safety related control functions so that process safety is delivered
  • Interpreting technical drawings for planning, executing and specifying material to support job duties
  • Taking ownership of own training and development plans and delivering these into the team’s training matrix
  • Ongoing monitoring and maintenance of the controls network infrastructure
  • Maintenance and update of malware counter measures on the controls network
  • Contributing to the investigation and reporting of all software, controls and security breach, near misses & incidents, with the aim of preventing reoccurrence
  • Permit to work systems
  • Initiating and supporting continuous improvement projects

Essential Skills:

  • A formal electronic/controls qualification such as HNC/HND or equivalent recognised training
  • ECI experience in a large-scale manufacturing/chemical facilities plant within a software/controls function
  • Knowledge and experience with the following: Windows servers 2008, 2012 & 2016, Microsoft SQL servers 2000, 2008 & 2012, Active directory, Terminal services and Thin client architecture, MS licencing
  • Experience of structured problem solving techniques
  • Ability to read and comprehend basic/complex electrical and mechanical drawings
  • Demonstrable understanding of EHS management principles

  • Ability prioritise and plan own workload and work autonomously?

Due to the nature of this role applicants must be non-smokers and have been free from nicotine products for at least three months
